Why do apples make me sick?

Nausea can be caused by a variety of foods, and apples are no exception. This is a distinct feeling of discomfort localized in the upper abdomen, often accompanied by the urge to vomit.

Why do I feel nauseous after eating apples?

Nausea after snacking on apples can occur for a variety of reasons. The most common include:

  • gastric pathologies;
  • liver and gallbladder diseases;
  • intestinal infections.

Why do apples make me sick?

If the cause is a stomach disorder, nausea is accompanied by vomiting and aching or stabbing pain in the abdomen. These symptoms are typical of gastritis. With liver and gallbladder disease, discomfort occurs during meals, accompanied by a bitter taste in the mouth and pain below the ribs on the right side. With intestinal infections, nausea does not appear immediately, but rather about an hour or more after eating. Discomfort is felt both before and after eating apples.

Other reasons

The reasons listed above are considered the most common, but there are others, such as the following:

  • overeating;
  • intense physical activity immediately after eating;
  • use of certain medications.

If someone has had a heavy lunch and then eaten a few apples, it's not surprising to experience discomfort. It can occur directly during the meal. A similar reaction can occur to spoiled apples with a strange taste.

Nausea can occur during pregnancy or due to psychological issues. Sometimes, discomfort occurs independently of a particular food, but is mistakenly linked to it—this can include apples. Nausea can be one of the signs of a fruit allergy. In this case, an itchy throat and swelling of the face and lips will also occur. Nausea can also be caused by lactose intolerance, which is found in large quantities in apples.

Excessive consumption of fruits also does not lead to anything good, because they are enriched with sugar.

What to do

To determine the exact cause, consult a gastroenterologist and get tested. It could be due to increased stomach acidity; once it returns to normal, you can safely eat apples. It's best to wait 1.5 hours after your main meal before eating fruit.

To make it easier for your body to digest apples, peel them. Don't eat them on an empty stomach. Experiment with different varieties: the body usually reacts worse to acidic ones.Why do apples make me sick?

If you experience nausea after eating fresh apples, try preparing various dishes with them. You can bake the fruit with dried apricots or cinnamon in the oven, adding honey. Baked fruit rarely causes nausea and is tolerated better by the body. Baking the fruit on its own is also acceptable for a dietary product that can be eaten even by those with serious gastrointestinal issues.
