5 Most Delicious Apple Compote Recipes

Apple compote is one of the most popular winter preserves. Many people make a traditional single-ingredient compote, some use different apple varieties, and still others add other fruits and berries. In any case, there's plenty of scope for culinary creativity. To give you a starting point when making apple compote, here are a few of the most popular recipes that will appeal not only to novice cooks but also to those looking to try something new.

Simple apple compote

It's best to start, of course, with a single-ingredient apple compote. This recipe works with any apple variety. You can use just one variety or combine several for a richer, more complex flavor.

Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 0.5 kg apples
  • 160 G Sahara
  • 1.5 l water

Instructions

  • First, you need to thoroughly rinse all the fruits under running water.
  • Remove the cores and seeds, and cut the remaining flesh into slices of any desired thickness. Even fallen fruit will work for this recipe, as the integrity of the fruit isn't particularly important.
  • Place the sliced apples in a sterilized jar so that it is half full.
  • Sprinkle the fruit with sugar. The recipe calls for a standard amount of sugar, but you can experiment based on your own tastes.
  • At the same time, place a pot of water on the stove. Bring it to a boil, then immediately pour it into the jar of apples, filling it to the lid.
  • Seal the jars with the compote with a sterilized lid, but do not seal them! Let them sit for 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, drain the syrup that has formed in the jars back into the pan. Only the fruit should remain inside the jars. Bring the fruit water back to a boil.
  • Once again, pour the boiling mixture into the jar up to the lid, but this time you need to roll it up or screw the container on with a screw cap.
  • Turn the containers over and check if the compote is leaking and if everything is sealed tightly.
  • You'll likely notice that the sugar hasn't completely dissolved at the bottom of the jar. This is completely normal. To help it dissolve, turn the jar of hot compote on its side and gently roll it from side to side.
  • Next, turn the jar upside down, wrap it in a warm towel or blanket and leave it until it cools completely.
