Appetitka salad with apples

Appetitka salad with apples

Of course, it's best to start your acquaintance with this appetizer with a traditional recipe. If you enjoy the salad prepared according to the classic recipe, you can experiment with it yourself, adding or removing certain ingredients.

A fragrant winter salad called Appetitka with apples

The canned salad with the original name "Appetitka" was named so for a reason. The recipe is based on apples and tomatoes. This spicy appetizer is traditionally served with main courses to whet the appetite, so to speak. However, don't limit yourself to just apples and tomatoes; many cooks have long since mastered the art of adding adjika, carrots, beets, eggplant, and other ingredients to this salad.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg ripe tomatoes
  • 200 G carrots
  • 200 G apples
  • 1 pcs. hot pepper
  • 3 tooth. garlic
  • 55 ml sunflower oil
  • 2 tbsp Sahara
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vinegar 9%

Instructions

  • Rinse the tomatoes thoroughly under running water and cut them in half. Then cut the halves into cubes.
  • Next, put the cubes in a blender or meat grinder and make tomato puree.
  • Peel the apples, remove the core and seeds. Grate the remaining pulp on a fine grater.
  • Using the same fine grater, grate the previously peeled carrots.
  • In a clean, deep saucepan, combine the tomatoes, apples, and carrots. Place over low heat and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Pour sunflower oil into the already thickened fruit and vegetable mixture and add salt.
  • Next, add sugar, pressed garlic, and a red pepper flake. Ideally, the pepper should also be finely chopped, as this will impart more flavor and aroma. Mix thoroughly and simmer for another half hour over low heat.
  • Literally 2 minutes before the end of cooking, pour table vinegar into the mixture.
  • Place the finished "Appetitka" into pre-sterilized jars and seal with lids. Turn the jars upside down, cover with a warm blanket, and let them cool at room temperature.

Note

Most cooks use this "homemade ketchup" as a topping or sauce for dishes featuring Italian pasta. Spaghetti, dumplings, and macaroni all pair beautifully with this spicy topping. Many also add this sauce to pelmeni (dumplings).
However, pasta and other doughy dishes aren't the only dishes that pair well with Appetitka. It can also be served with certain types of fish, meat, fried chicken, and vegetables. It's also a great addition to savory salads.
This adjika appetizer pairs perfectly with, for example, mashed potatoes or meatballs. This spicy sauce can be served as a standalone appetizer at a holiday table. It has a wide variety of uses, the key is to achieve the right level of spiciness and sweetness for your taste. And don't be afraid to experiment – try adding eggplant, bell pepper, or beets to the recipe.
