Apple and cherry compote

Apple and cherry compote
Ingredients
- 1.5 l filtered water
- 300 G cherries (it is advisable to take sweet and sour varieties)
- 250 G apples (it is best to take sweet varieties)
- 3-4 tbsp Sahara
Instructions
- You can use either fresh or frozen cherries to make this compote. Only fresh apples are suitable. You'll need to experiment a bit with the sugar. The amount will depend not only on your personal preference but also on the sweetness of the fruit and berries.
- Pour water into a saucepan, place on the stove, and bring to a boil. Wash the apples and cut them into 8 pieces (remove the stems and cores). If you're using store-bought apples, it's best to peel them.
- Pour ice water over frozen cherries. If the berries are fresh, immediately drop them into boiling water.
- Add the apple slices into the water and let everything simmer for a couple of minutes.
- Then add sugar (or, if using a sugar substitute, fructose or molasses) to the water. Mix thoroughly. If you prefer to use honey, you'll only need to add it to the drink once the compote has cooled slightly.
- Remove the pan with the compote from the heat, cover with a lid and leave to infuse at room temperature for an hour.
- Once the drink has cooled, you can refrigerate it and enjoy it cold or serve it straight away. Some people enjoy eating berries and fruits simmered in the compote. If you're one of those people, don't cut the apples too small, to make it easier to use them later as dessert.
