The most effective chemical fungicides against fungal diseases are copper-containing products, including Bordeaux mixture, copper sulfate, copper oxychloride, and many others. In this article, you'll learn about the properties and effectiveness of HOM, one of the most well-known fungal protection products used by both professionals and amateur gardeners.

Description of the drug

HOM is a contact-active fungicide based on copper oxychloride. It is a bluish-green powder. HOM is composed of copper oxychloride and inorganic substances.apple tree seedlings

This fungicide is highly effective against many fungal plant diseases. It has a broad spectrum of activity and combats pathogens at any stage of development. The powder penetrates pathogens, killing them over time.

Advantages and disadvantages of HOM

Before using any product, you must first familiarize yourself with its advantages and disadvantages.

Positive features of the fungicide:

  • the protective effect lasts for 10–20 days;
  • when taken in the recommended doses, the drug is not phytotoxic;
  • treated potatoes are less susceptible to Colorado potato beetle attacks;
  • compatibility with many modern fungicides and insecticides;
  • used for preventive treatments;
  • If the instructions are followed, the drug is safe for people.

Flaws:

  • the solution should be used only on dry days;
  • not an economical product, since you need to spray the leaves on both sides;
  • quickly decomposes under the influence of oxygen.

Using fungicide in the garden

To treat the garden, you can use the HOM preparation.

  1. Fruit trees require a higher application rate: 3–5 liters per plant. It's important to approach the treatment carefully and ensure all foliage is covered to completely eliminate the fungus. This procedure should be repeated at least four times per season.
  2. Grapevines should be treated before fruit set. Preventative measures are better than removing or treating the vines. Three treatments are required.
  3. Ornamental flowers require a lower concentration (30 g/bucket of water). Two applications are required.

Before applying HOM to your garden, it's a good idea to check for rainfall to avoid wasting the solution. If the weather is calm, spray in the evening.

If the procedure is carried out in the morning, there is a risk of leaf burns.

You can also treat trees with HOM in the fall, before the winter season begins. This treatment will help protect plants from pest infestations, strengthen their immunity, and stimulate growth.

Using the drug in the garden

At what temperature does HOM work best? During treatment, the outside temperature should be no higher than +30°C. Use only freshly prepared solution.

Do not use the product if its expiration date has passed.

Instructions for use of the HOM preparation for garden vegetables:

  1. This tomato fertilizer can be applied four times during the growing season. Tomatoes are most often damaged by late blight and brown leaf spot. The solution consumption rate is up to 150 liters per square meter.
  2. For cucumbers affected by anthracnose, downy mildew, or bacterial blight, use a solution in the following proportion: 40 g per bucket of water. The consumption rate of the prepared solution is 100–300 ml per square meter. Three treatments per season are recommended.
  3. Downy mildew often damages onions. Treatment should be carried out once per season (40 g of substance per 10 liters of liquid). The application rate is up to 200 ml per 1 square meter.
  4. To prevent late blight, potatoes are treated at least five times, starting in spring and continuing throughout the season. To do this, dilute 40 g of HOM in 10 liters of water.

After treatment, do not water the crops excessively, as the substance is easily washed away by liquid.

Rules for using the fungicide HOM

When treating plants with the preparation, it is necessary to follow the following tips and recommendations:

  1. Use copper oxychloride during the growing season. Do not use during flowering.
  2. Use the prepared solution on a windless day in the evening.
  3. Treat the leaf blades carefully and on both sides.
  4. Use warm liquid to dilute the substance.
  5. It is prohibited to use food containers for preparing the composition.
  6. The fungicide should be used no more than five times during the season.
  7. If the product has expired, it cannot be used.
  8. To prevent fungicide accumulation in fruit, stop treatment one month before harvest.

The fungicide HOM is used as a preventative measure. However, since it is a chemical, it is more often used for treatment, while biological agents are chosen for preventative purposes.

Safety precautions

To achieve maximum effectiveness, carefully read the instructions for use. This will help avoid mistakes. When using the fungicide, follow the safety precautions:

  • During the procedures, use a mask, gloves and glasses;
  • Do not eat while working;
  • If the product gets into your eyes, rinse them immediately with running water.

In case of any negative health symptoms, consult a doctor immediately.

Effective combinations for successful crop processing

To effectively combat parasites and diseases, it's important to combine supplements correctly. Explore some combinations that can help you achieve effective results.

  1. HOM + fungicides: Using this product in combination with other fungicides helps combat fungal infections (leaf spot and mildew). Mixing HOM with fungicides helps strengthen crops and prevent fungal diseases.
  2. HOM + growth stimulant: Mixing HOM with a growth stimulant promotes active plant development. This combination accelerates crop growth and flowering.
  3. HOM + fertilizer: combining the substance with fertilizer provides plants with essential nutrients. This combination improves crop development and increases resistance to diseases and pests.
  4. HOM + insecticides: Using HOM in combination with insecticides helps control pests such as leafworms, thrips, and spider mites. Treating crops with this solution helps protect plants from pests.

Before using supplements, read the manufacturer's instructions and be sure to consult with specialists.

Combinations of HOM with fertilizer to improve the nutritional value of the soil

When spraying crops with HOM, it can be mixed with fertilizers to enrich the soil and create favorable conditions for the development of various plants. Using the product in combination with fertilizers helps increase fruit yields.

Here are some effective combinations of the product with fertilizers to improve the nutritional value of the soil.

  1. HOM + micronutrients: When combined with a micronutrient, the soil can be improved. Iron sulfate, magnesium, or boron are used for this purpose. This will enrich the soil with micronutrients, and plants will absorb nutrients from the soil.
  2. HOM + mineral fertilizers: The product can effectively interact with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers. This combination helps provide crops with beneficial micronutrients, ensuring healthy plant development and growth.
  3. HOM + organics: mixing the preparation with organic fertilizers (compost or humus) helps improve the soil.

The choice of combining fertilizer and powder depends on the crop type, its nutrient requirements, and soil characteristics. Before using, it is recommended to consult an agronomist to determine the optimal ratio and dosage.Home: Instructions for use in the garden

Copper oxychloride is the most effective fungicide against fungal infections. It can be used long-term because its active ingredient is non-addictive. It has many advantages, including good compatibility with other pesticides and insecticides, with the exception of alkalis. It is affordable and of excellent quality, which is why gardeners appreciate it.
